My name is Seán Brett and I am a TY student in the CBS Thurles secondary school. I grew up on a farm and have always enjoyed working with animals and machinery.
While growing up my father taught me to be very cautious when slurry spreading as he was aware of the dangers associated with the open manhole to the slurry pit. With an open manhole the risk of a person or animal fallen in was very real. As per the Health & Safety Authority (HSA) 12 fatal farm workplace accidents occurred in 2022, in Ireland. Slurry drowning accounts for 8% of these fatalities.
This is a very stark statistic and it was my aim to come up with a product that would eliminate this health and safety risk. This is how Tankit was born! Tankit was designed primarily to address multiple farm safety hazards.
Tankit was awarded the winner of the 2024 Senior County Student Enterprise competition and will be representing Tipperary in the National Final in Mullingar in May.
